Township office

The Township office is open to the public. We are a mask friendly environment.

Contactless payments for taxes, water/sewer and other invoices can be paid online through your financial institution, mailing a cheque, dropping a cheque off in our mail-slot, or by credit card over the phone.

The 2% credit card surcharge is now in effect, as our office is open for in-person payments.

The Township of Southwold continues to provide essential services like drinking water, fire protection, road maintenance, and waste collection.

Township staff are working regular business hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) Monday through Friday. You can visit us online at www.southwold.ca, by phone at 519-769-2010 or by email.

Building permit applications and building inspections

Building permits are currently being issued and can be submitted to the Township Building Department through CloudPermit.

All community facilities are open to the public and available for rental.

Council Meetings

The Township of Southwold Council continues to meet both in-person and virtually via video conference.

These meetings are held on the 2^nd and 4^th Monday of each month at 7:00 PM.

Parks and recreation fields

Township parks and recreation fields are open. Please follow the current recommended safety guidelines.

Planning

All planning applications, including Zoning By-Law and Official Plan amendments, severances, minor variances, and site plan control applications, can be submitted electronically via email in PDF format to our Planner. Our office is open to the public should you need to meet in person.

Payments by cheque can be sent by mail or deposited into the Township mailbox.

Tenders and RFP's

Companies or individuals who want to bid on a project presented can register and submit bids for current tenders offered by the Township online through Bids & Tenders.

2022 Dog Tags

Effective January 1, 2022, residents are no longer required to purchase a dog tag from the Township of Southwold.

The requirement of pet owners to identify their dog will now be the responsibility of the pet owner. Each owner is to obtain their own tag with owner contact information clearly displayed. The identification tag must include a phone number for the owner of the dog and must be of sufficient size and contrast to be easily read.

By-law 2013-30 will continue to contain provisions requiring identification and continue to establish fines for those who do not meet the requirements.

Pet owners can easily purchase a personalized tag with their phone number printed on it, either online or at a local pet store or obtain a tag from their vet, in order to meet the by-law requirements.

Personalized tags also gives the person who finds a dog the option of contacting the owner directly to redeem the dog or calling Animal Control to have the dog picked up.

If your dog is picked up by animal control, the owner must provide proof of ownership of the dog, and pay the applicable maintenance charges, and any other damages, fines and expenses according to the law.

Garbage and Recycling Collection

Garbage and recycling collection continues as regularly scheduled. There are a number of actions that you can take to help collectors:

Please bag all loose items, including tissues and napkins, and place in the garbage bag. Do not place loose waste in garbage containers.
If you or someone in your household is feeling unwell, please place items that have been in contact with your mouth, nose, eyes into a bag and then into the garbage. This includes items that you would normally place into recycling, such as plastic bottles, pop cans, and milk or juice containers.
Please reduce the amount of waste placed at the curb. We ask that residents place the least amount of garbage at the curb as possible.
Please respect physical distancing with sanitation and recycling operators and do not approach the vehicle.
Wipe down your blue box and garbage can to be thoughtful towards our sanitation and recycling collectors.
